This album is more than just music — it's a tribute to Puerto Rico, an island my soul is deeply connected to. It celebrates the beauty of the island while also shedding light on its struggles and calling for change.

Growing up, I spent most of my time with the Dominican side of my family, which left me feeling disconnected from my Puerto Rican roots. I often traveled to the Dominican Republic as a kid but never to Puerto Rico. My only real connection to the island was through my family and the music. As a child, I didn’t even claim my Puerto Rican heritage- how could I when I felt like a stranger to it ?

That began to change when I was 18 and discovered Bad Bunny. The pride in his voice when he spoke about Puerto Rico stirred something in me. I started listening more closely to his lyrics, trying to appreciate what made him feel so strongly about the island. It was my responsibility to understand. That curiosity led me to learn more about Puerto Rico’s history and its current struggles — from U.S. colonialism to gentrification and cultural displacement.

Learning about Puerto Rico felt like unlocking a forgotten room in my heart. In that discovery, I found not only pain, but power. Not only struggle, but beauty — breathtaking, defiant, and mine.

So yes, the painting is Bad Bunny’s album cover. But more than that, it’s one of the lands in which my roots first reached for light. That’s why I named it “Tierra de Abuela” — the soil of my grandmother, the beginning of me.
